Pewsey residents painted the town red – and yellow, green and blue – for the arrival of the Tour of Britain peloton.
The elite cyclists were lucky enough to pass through the village during carnival fortnight, and the village was looking its most festive.
Last night scores of residents, led by Sue Faux of Faux Arts, helped create a work of art on the road surface near the statue of King Alfred.
Scores of well-wishers lined the streets to cheer on the cyclists as they raced from Bath to Hemel Hempstead during Stage 6 of the international competition. And a special cheer was reserved for Sir Bradley Wiggins, who was sporting a beard and ‘Wiggo’ jersey.
Crowds were also lining the streets – or the roundabout, at least – in Burbage.
Most got good views of the breakaway group – Tom Stewart, Alex Dowsett and Stage 5 winner Matthias Brandle – as they made their way around the roundabout.
But the main peloton – containing so many continental riders, and arriving some two minutes behind the leaders – decided to take the roundabout in an anti-clockwise direction, robbing many of a decent view… or photograph.
Luckily Marlborough News Online had three photographers on the scene to ensure we were able to bring you the best shots.
