Or should it be ‘Health & Sport’? The two words could – should? – be synonymous as Sport can enable Health, and Health can enable Sport.
Marlborough is a town with a wide range of Sport options on offer. For all ages, not just the young and active, but those in upper area of the age spectrum where ‘Sport’ and ‘Activity’ merge and the emphasis is on improving and maintaining fitness, which itself is one gateway to Health. And also for every part of that age spectrum. Sport is there for us all, and plenty of Sports to choose from.
Sport / Activity / Participation at any age. And competition? Be as competitive as you wish. Many can easily be put off by feeling that they could be in competition – but the key is taking part. Set yourself your own goal, for sure. In parkrun, it might just be walking around that 5k course. And even taking breaks on the way. We each set our own goals, it may just be participating in some activity, for an hour, two hours or whatever each week Whatever you feel most comfortable with, and is achievable is your ‘competitive’ goal.
Set out below is an easy to access guide to sport in Marlborough. Many organisations set out to cater for as wide a range of us as they can. Marlborough Youth Football club, for example is there to create a football structure for the youth in Marlborough, boys and girls. But they also run Walking Football (for over ’50s), for those of us at the other end of the age spectrum. And they also run a disability football group with the ‘Marlborough Thunderbolts’, one side already and soon to be two teams. Overall there are amore than 500 players on their books, of whom easily 200 are girls. They are inclusive, in every respect, and regarding age – from under 5 to ……. anything. Their ethos is enjoyment, development and wellbeing, and not just results.
Marlborough Youth are just one example of the inclusivity of sport and sporting organisations in the Marlborough area. Parkrun caters for everyone. MarlboroughTennis – walking tennis, juniors, and all ages (and capabilities) between.
Sport also is there to help more than just the physical health, it helps mental health as well. And for many sports there is the social aspect too. More contact with others, and in any particular sport, much in common too.
