Town Mayor, Cllr Nick Fogg, will switch on Marlborough’s Christmas lights at 6.30pm on Friday November 24. However, the event will last the whole day. There’s a festive market, including food and drink from 10am to 7.30pm, Father Christmas in his grotto in St Peter’s Church from 4-6pm together with face painting (bookable), live street entertainment, buskers and live music on the Town Hall steps from 5-7pm.
Clare Harris, Deputy Town Clerk, said, “This is the biggest Christmas lights event we have organised. There will be over 50 stalls, stretching the length of the High Street, selling gifts, crafts, festive food and drink together with hot food vendors and bars. We are welcoming back old traders but there are many who are coming for the first time.”
This year, for the first time, the Lions club are organising for Father Christmas to be in his Grotto in St Peter’s(4-6pm). There is no charge to visit him and no need to book.
There is a packed line-up of live entertainment on the Town Hall steps. Marlborough Academy of Dance and Drama will be performing at 5pm followed by Marlborough Rock Choir and The Bluebelles. After the Christmas lights switch-on students from St John’s will be performing and Marlborough Musical Theatre Choir will bring the evening’s entertainment to a close. Buskers in the High Street will include Peter Turvey with his medieval bagpipes.
There will be no parking in the centre of the High Street from 8 am to allow the festive market to set up and the High Street will close completely at 4pm
The Town Council would like to thank the Rotary Club for their support in planning and running the evening.
