At 6:30pm last night (Friday 24 November) Marlborough’s Christmas lights burst into display mode. The High Street was crowded and for the first time, the market extended all the way along, from Town Hall to St Peter’s at the far Western end.
The plunger was pushed by Thomas Bradwell, with the Mayor, Nick Fogg, looking on with a bit of encoragement from ‘apprentice switcher-on’ Fabian, who is also an Apprentice at Chris’ Barber Shop opposite the Town Hall.
Below are selections of pics from the evening – the entertainment (from the steps of the Town Hall) to Santa in St Peter’s and lots in between.

The Town Hall steps were the stage and crowds were entertained by many local – and some young – performers. First up were the young – Marlborough Academy of Dance & Drama (MAAD), followed by the large (and rocking) NorthWilts Rock Choir. Then it was the Bluebelles, followed by St John’s students and then the entertainment was closed by the Marlborough Musical Theatre Choir.

Santa could be found in many places: In St Peter’s greeting the kids (a long queue to see him), a ‘wannabee Santa’ in the St Peter’s churchyard, and then in his Lions Limo – or sled. Even managed to pick up the Mayor for a ride back to the Town Hall in time to push the plunger to turn on the lights.
