Rowdeford School pupil, Thomas, aged 15, who suffers from a rare chromosome disorder which affects his mobility and speech, made it all the way to the final 3 of the Sir Terry Wogan, Young Fundraiser of the Year Award 2023. Last year, inspired by the Rickshaw Challenge on BBC Children in Need, Thomas cycled 67 miles on a tricycle over 3 weeks and raised nearly £2000 for BBC Children in Need. This year Thomas has been out on his trike again and he also organised a cake sale to raise more funds.

Louise Bradwell, Thomas’s mum, said, “I couldn’t be prouder of him and he’s loved being involved in the process, particularly being on Radio 2 with Michael Ball.
Today Thomas attempted a 15 mile ride, unfortunately the cycle track was muddy and boggy in places, this along with the weather proved very challenging for Thomas. He didn’t quite finish the intended ride today but I know he will smash it next time and what a lesson we can all learn from this. What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Failure often disappoints, which can discourage us from trying in the first place, never mind trying things again.
One of life’s lessons – success and failure, and whether we keep trying or give up is what makes a difference. Thomas will keep trying – because he loves life. Please help Thomas smash his target.
It doesn’t matter if it’s 50p, £1, £5 or £50 – every penny counts and can make a real difference and improve the lives of thousands of children by ensuring that their childhood is safe, happy and secure. Things most of us take for granted.”
