It’s now twenty five years since RNLI Lifeguards started patrolling our beaches. And to celebrate, this year’s RNLI concert at St Peter’s – on Friday 24 April is to support them. The UK and Ireland are ‘Island Nations’. We rely on the waters that surround us and at times that can become dangerous. The RNLI has been there for over two hundred years to protect our coastlines – both those of the UK and Ireland – and the volunteer crews who man those 238 stations are on call, ready to launch 24/7 – at any time, day or night, and under any conditions. Lifeguards play the same role, but on our beaches and are there to help any swimmer, surfer or other water user if they get into trouble, be they pulled out by a rip current, too close to dangerous rocks or swamped by heavy waves. The RNLI Lifeguards are there for us all.

The Dodecantus Chamber Choir are an amateur mixed voice chamber choir who regularly perform concerts in the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area whilst also undertaking programmes of tours and recordings. On Friday they are at St Peter’s, performing for the RNLI Lifeguards.
Many of us will be familiar with the BBC series ‘Saving Lives at Sea’ which shows many real life experiences of crews around the country, and shows that it’s not just ships, yachts and paddleboards, but also dogs cut off having stumbled down a cliff. That is the RNLI – Lifeboats and Lifeguards in action saving lives at sea or even on the beach.
But RNLI is a charity and they depend on us, what we give be it in donations, legacies, concerts (such as this) or Christmas cards and other RNLI themed products.
