Richard Pickles is Members Committee Chairman: “After much consideration the committee chose Oscar Oliver as our Junior of the Year 2018. Oscar has reduced his handicap from twenty-one to eleven. He also won the Cumberwell Park Under 14s Junior Open.”
“He has represented the Club and finished in first place in the County Under 14s Nett Order of Merit. He is also a member of the Wiltshire Boys Elite Training programme. Oscar puts in a lot of hard graft in the winter under torch light on the putting green.”
Each year, golf club members are asked to nominate a Junior – boy or girl under 18 – who has distinguished themselves in some way. Performance and improvement in playing the game as well as the contribution to the club and conduct off the course during the year are all considered.
There were three nominations this year. Jennifer Almond reduced her handicap from twenty-six to eighteen. She won The Alresford Cup for the south of England Under 14s as well as the Junior Club Championship.
She represented her Club and County and finished fourth in the County’s Under 14s Nett Order of Merit. Jennifer is also part of the Wiltshire Girls Elite Training programme.
Finlay Mulvey was the third Junior to be nominated for the award. He reduced his handicap from twenty-eight to twenty. He won the Broome Manor Junior Open and the Salisbury and South Wilts Junior Open.
Finn finished fourth in the County Under 14s Nett Order of Merit. He has represented his Club and is part of the Wiltshire Boys Elite Training programme. Like Oscar, Finn can be found practising late at night under torch light on the putting green in winter.
Richard Pickles told marlborough.news: “All our juniors are not just a credit to our Club but to themselves. They are polite, work tirelessly on their game and encourage one another.”
