Tesco Marlborough and the Town Council have come together to provide much-needed new equipment for Marlborough Youth Football Club’s site at the Marlborough Community & Youth Centre at Salisbury Road Recreation Ground.
Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ scheme combined with a generous grant from Marlborough Town Council Town has helped deliver the new goalposts, changing room benches/hooks and that vital accessory for any football club – the tactical magnetic white board for Marlborough’s very popular and active Youth Football club (MYFC).
There are approximately one hundred MYFC footballers based at the Recreation Ground and they will all benefit from these facilities. The Youth Centre site of one of three principal playing venues for the club with eight teams in the Under U7-10 category being based there.
Overall, MYFC has total 350 registered players playing for twenty eight different teams – comprising dedicated girls football (the Angels), walking football (seniors) as well as the many boys’ teams. With the fifty or so volunteers to make every team possible, they need several sites across Marlborough to accommodate the whole range of football activity on offer.
Chairman Stu Slater said “We are so grateful to our partners, Marlborough Town Council being a notable example. We rely entirely on sponsors and grants to supplement players subscriptions, keeping membership costs affordable and giving us wider opportunities to develop our facilities. Without such additional funding we would not be able to function nearly as effectively as a football provider. We are delighted to have use of another dressing room and clubhouse facility, now fabulously equipped, and we are very appreciative to the Town Council for helping make our football a better experience for our club and opposition teams alike”.
Town Mayor, Cllr Lisa Farrell said: – “ I’m delighted that Tesco has again come to the community with a grant to help our local young people. It’s exactly what I had in mind when I first set out to make sure that Marlborough kept its Community & Youth Centre.”
Matt Jones, Manager of the local branch of Tesco said “Brilliant to be able to support local causes with our Bags of Help Scheme. The facilities look fantastic.”
