At 10:30am sharp, Marlborough Mayor, Councillor Nick Fogg, aided by Town Crier Mike Tupman declared the 2023 u3a in Kennet Open Day ‘open’.
The Open Day is the opportunity for those in the Marlborough and surrounding area community to see what u3a can offer. What there activities there are of interest, relevance, or even just the social side of the organisation. Already this group’s membership exceeds 650 members, and in this area there are well over sixty different ‘interest groups’ to join, learn from and participate in.

u3a is diverse. It offers members lots of different options. Even from Classic Cars, through International Affairs, table tennis, cycling, right to Recorder Ensembles, and Group leader, Harriet Oliver was there in the Court Room with an fascinating collection of recorders, but with one that in no way looked like a recorder, but was. A Contra Bass Recorder, on its stand looking almost like a neat modern PA system speaker. But when Harriet started to play – all such doubts were swept away.
And, lots more. This year’s Open Day was crowded. Plenty of groups exhibiting, but also plenty of potential new members coming along to see what u3a offered, and many joining there and then. Soon after Mayor Nick Fogg declared the day ‘open’, The Court Room in the Town Hall was crowded.
