Today, Tuesday August 11th, White Chalk Gallery, opened its doors to business at No 2 Marlborough High Street. Selling ceramics, paintings, prints, glass, textiles and jewellery, it has a lot to offer. There will also be exhibitions, which will change each month, and which will showcase one artist and one ceramicist.
Owner, Bryony Cox, who is herself an artist and who studied drawing at Falmouth University, told Marlborough.news, “I started the gallery nearly five years ago in Devizes but decided to move it to Marlborough as Marlborough is such a beautiful town which has plenty of retail shops, and has a lovely atmosphere and ethos.”
Bryony will source and curate the artists and ceramicists, all of them British, for the monthly exhibitions. This month the gallery is featuring David O’Connor, a local painter, who paints the local Wiltshire landscape as well as a Japanese garden. The ceramicist is Richard Wilson, who is based in Dorset and who portrays the ebb and flow of the ocean in his work, together with bright colours and surface patterns.
White Chalk Gallery will be formally opened on Friday August 14th by Lilian and Chris from Marlborough’s Katharine House Gallery in The Parade. Bryony commented, “Everyone has been really welcoming and I’ve received a lot of support from local businesses.”
