On Tuesday afternoon (20 February) there was a ‘Drop In’ session held in the Town Hall where residents affected – and concerned about being affected by any future flooding – could meet with representatives of the Environment Agency (EA) and Wiltshire Council.
A ‘steady stream’ of residents (not a ‘flood’) visited the Town Hall during the afternoon, between 2pm and 6pm.
Residents were invited to share experiences and information with the representatives there from both EA and Wiltshire Council, and bring details of what happened.
These included images, videos, times, actual descriptions of what happened, locations of flooding, route of where the water ran and whatever else could be provided.
All of this will go to help both organisations regarding future defence against such events recurring, or how best to manage anything that did happen.
But it wasn’t just Marlborough that was affected, the water came from somewhere. And that ‘somewhere’ was from further up the river Kennet. Below are a couple of pics – of the road from the A4 to West Overton, flooded for at least 100m, and in Lockeridge, where the Kennet burst its banks causing that stretch of road to be flooded in a way that hadn’t been experienced before in any local residents’ memories.
After the drop in session, the next meeting of the working party took place at the Town Hall where the plans and structure for dealing with any future flooding and emergency situations were being discussed and formulated. visit the Town Council website for information about flooding – how to prepare, what to do, and giving many links to other organisations that might supply required information.
