‘The Times’ today ran a story headlined ‘Marlborough College teacher faces historical sex investigation‘ regarding a Police inquiry into alleged offences at Marlborough College back in the eighties.
Marlborough.news received the following statement from Wiltshire Police in response to an enquiry: “We have arrested a man in his 80s on suspicion of a non-recent sexual assault following a report from a member of the public.
“The arrest relates to an incident in Marlborough which took place in the 1980s.
“He has been bailed while enquiries continue.”
The Times article quotes a Marlborough College spokesperson: “The College is aware that police are investigating a former member of staff following a report from a member of the public of a non-recent sexual assault.
“We take any allegation of this nature extremely seriously, no matter how long ago it is said to have occurred.
“The College places safeguarding at the heart of everything it does and the wellbeing and welfare of our pupils and staff always remain our top priority.
“We are in close contact with the police as they continue their inquiries.”
The report notes that the alleged offences involve Boarding House C1, ‘or a teacher connected to that House’.
