Now, for under £30 a month and with no joining fee, members of the new Marlborough College Health Club will be able to swim for over 15 hours a week during term-time and for 17 hours a week during the school holidays.
The College will be holding a taster day between 1.00pm and 4.00pm on Saturday, March 14 for members of the public to have a good look around the pool and meet the team.
They are encouraged to bring their swimming costumes for a free swim and they will be able to sign-up to become swimming members of the Marlborough College Health Club. For the first year membership numbers will be capped at 250.
John Blake, director of Marlborough College Enterprise, explained: “We are delighted to be opening the doors of our Swimming Pool to the public and to be able to offer the local community more choice in their exercise regimes.”
“Our plan is for Marlborough College Health Club to expand over the course of the next few years to include a state-of-the-art fitness centre that will offer a range sports such as squash and tennis and fitness classes including zumba, spinning, pilates and boxercise as well a traditional weights and circuits.”
The pool has very high water quality which is primarily disinfected by ultra violet light – eliminating the need for high chlorine levels.
During term-time the swimming times for health club members will be a daily hour in the morning (07.30am to 8.30am – and to 10.00am on Sundays), two weekday hour-long lunchtime sessions and hour-long evening sessions on weekdays (6.00pm to 7.00pm.) During the holidays the Saturday morning session will run to 10.00am.
From March 14 application forms for members of the health club will be available at Crosby and Lawrence at the west end of the High Street.
Marlborough College are also on the lookout for part-time lifeguards. Training will be provided. Call Swimming Pool Manager, James Auty, on 01672 892500.
