Following an (unannounced) inspection conducted in January, between 11th and 16th, Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors gave Marlborough Lodge an overall rating of ‘Inadequate’. The report was published on Monday – 06 March and can be accessed from the Care Quality Commission website.
Whilst the Overall Rating was ‘Inadequate’, of the five review areas, ‘Caring’ and ‘Responsive’ were ranked ‘Good’, whereas ‘Safe’, ‘Effective’ and Well-led’ were all rated as being ‘Inadequate’, hence the overall rating. The summary page can be accessed here.
The Summary shows that for Infection Prevention and Control, ‘Visitors’, ‘Admission’, Use of PPE’ and ‘Testing’ were rated as ‘Assured’, Whilst ‘Premises, ‘Staffing’ and ‘Policies’ were ‘Not Assured’. ‘Shielding’ was rated as Somewhat Assured’.
There are four overall categories of ratings for a review. The best are ‘Outstanding’. The next are rated as ‘Good’, then ‘Requires Improvement’, where the service is not performing as well as it should and has been told how it must improve.
At the end is ‘Inadequate;’, and on the CQC explanation of ratings, this is described as ‘The service is performing badly and we’ve taken action against the person or organisation that runs it.’ That is how Marlborough Lodge was rated overall, and in three of the five areas for review.
Marlborough Lodge is now run by Fidelity Healthcare Limited, with registered office based in Slough. It would appear that Marlborough Lodge is the only Care Home run by this company.
The report is long and detailed so to see the comments and findings made by Inspectors best to see the full report itself by clicking on the link above.
The previous CQC review was conducted in September 2015 and the overall rating as ‘Good’. Each area was rated ‘Good’, apart from ‘Caring’ which was rated as ‘Outstanding’. The current details accompanying the 2015 review notes that ‘The provider of this service changed’. It doesn’t give any further information regarding the details of this ‘change’. Details of this 2015 review can be accessed from the CQC website by clicking here.
