Dear Danny Kruger.
I have previously emailed you, as my MP, requesting a meeting to discuss nature and climate issues. However, you are a busy and hard-working MP who probably receives hundreds of emails every day. I therefore understand why you have not felt able to respond to my approaches and am now addressing you, instead, through this open letter.
I do, of course, have an agenda. I would like to see Reform UK accept that nature and climate issues matter to the majority of the electorate, and I’d like to see your party develop well thought-through, grown-up policies rather than continue dismissing such concerns as “woke nonsense”. You do have policies on energy but that’s not the same as having policies on nature and climate.
I do not expect that Reform will necessarily come up with policies I personally agree with. However, I do believe that any party aspiring to govern should have clear policies on all important issues. When the time comes, we, your constituents, can then vote for or against a transparent, comprehensive plan for government.
I’m therefore asking if you will meet me, and other like-minded constituents, for a respectful discussion where we can listen and better understand the priorities you, and your party, could bring to a national conversation on nature and climate. Our aim would be to encourage you to bring forward effective, affordable policies based on those values.
Finally, if discussing nature and climate with constituents is a low priority for you, please at least take a look at netstupidzero.org which may help you appreciate better why net zero is not an optional luxury for any nation on our beautiful, shared planet.
Warm regards
Professor David Waltham
