After the Olympics in Italy and the millions of us that tuned in to watch the exploits of the UK Curling teams, if there is any spark of inspiration then the nearest to Curling is indoor Bowls at the Marlborough Bowling Club just off the Recreation Ground on the Salisbury Road.
In the summer it’s outdoors on the beautiful green square. At other times it’s indoors, and this is where it starts to look and feel a bit like Curling, but without anyone running in front of the Bowl or Stone with a brush.
Recently there was a friendly match between Ramsbury Bowls Club and Marlborugh. And Marlborough came away with ‘Gold – well not quite, but they emerged as winners. A return match is definitely on the cards.
Bowls is a sport for all ages. Some younger players, but many from the upper age groups and when the emphasis is on ‘Health’ as it is so much nowadays, Bowls is an enjoyable and active way of helping stay healthy and fit. Sport and Health do go together, and Bowls is one activity that bridges the whole age spectrum.
