The Beacons Challenge 2023, which took place on July 15, has raised £26,000 for the local charity, Youth Adventure Trust. These funds will play a vital role in enabling vulnerable young people to access life-changing opportunities through outdoor adventures and personal development programmes. The Youth Adventure Trust has been using outdoor adventure to inspire young lives for 28 years.
The Beacons Challenge 2023 brought together teams from across the country to take on an epic challenge. The challenge consisted of 18 teams, and 89 individuals who braved the elements to raise funds for the Youth Adventure Trust. Even under normal circumstances this is a tough challenge that requires weeks of training and dedication, but this year there was an added level of mental toughness and resilience required as the team hiked through strong winds, hail and stormy weather.
Despite the weather, the Beacons Challenge 2023 proved to be a huge success. Here is what this year’s participants had to say about the challenge:
“The event was really well organised, and from the moment we got there we felt thoroughly looked after. Even though the mountains looked daunting, the whole team made us feel like we could achieve it. During the walk when it was getting really hard I had to remind myself of what the young people go through which spurred me on even when it was difficult. I can’t wait to take part next year!” (Dyane, Event Participant)
The Youth Adventure Trust are very grateful to their sponsors, Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, who covered the cost of the event, which meant that all of the funds raised could go directly to the programme.
If you are inspired to do something similar and interested in taking part, please put Saturday 6th July 2024 in your diary for next year’s Beacons Challenge and contact philippa@youthadventuretrust.org.uk for further details.
