While the government has just announced its nationwide superfast broadband scheme has reached one million homes and businesses, Wiltshire Council announced that its part of the scheme has reached 13,000 premises.
This figure is set against the 157,000 plus premises in Wiltshire that have fibre optic broadband through BT’s commercial roll-out.
The Wiltshire scheme – now dubbed Greater Western Broadband – is funded by money from the council itself, the government, BT and the EU.
It promises to reach another 30,000 premises in Wiltshire with fibre optic broadband by the end of 2014.
