Sunday will be a big day for Margot Wilkinson when she takes on the London Marathon to raise money for Meningitis Research Foundation. A cause very close to Margot as she fell gravely ill with Meningitis whilst at University, but thanks to all the hospital staff who cared for her, family and friends who gave her the support she needed to make a full recovery, she is now strong enough to take on that 26+ mile challenge pounding the streets of London.
But not just running. Whilst at Uni she took her rugby skills – honed at Marlborough Rugby – to a further level and represented the Cardiff University Ladies team and then several other key representative sides such as Ministry of Defence and the UK Civil Service Ladies teams after leaving Uni. Ironically now she is working for Gilbert, the company that makes the rugby balls.

But supporting the Meningitis Research Foundation is at the core of several fundraising ventures, beyond running marathons. Even a bake sale at Marlborough’s Rugby Club with proceeds going to the charity.
If you’d like to give Margot your support and help research into Meningitis click here to reach Margot’s Just Giving page. Meningitis as we saw recently in Kent can be devastating to anyone who succumbs. Every year there are well over two million people across the world who suffer and it can be caught by anyone at any age but the young are frequently those affected most. For many it is life changing or worse. There is a lot yet to be discovered about meningitis and this charity – Meningitis Research Foundation is at the front of that race.
But on Sunday spot Margot in the crowd – she’ll be wearing No.15668

Marlborough’s car parks – costs to go up, but charged hours to increase to 7am-7pm
