Another Conservative MP given a boost in David Cameron’s government reshuffle was 45-year-old Robert Buckland, who lives at Wroughton, being promoted to the post of Solicitor General.
Welsh-born Mr Buckland, a trained barrister, was elected as MP for South Swindon at the last election. He was a member of the Justice Select Committee in the Commons until last year and, is a supporter of the Leveson Report recommendations on the media, and currently sits on the Commons Standards Committee.
“Being appointed Solicitor General is a huge privilege,” said Mr Buckland, who is married with twin children. “I am delighted and honoured to have been asked by David Cameron to take on this senior role.
“The extra influence that comes with this position will be good news for South Swindon, and I will make sure I continue to represent fellow local residents effectively and conscientiously.”
