Inspector Ron Peach told the Marlborough Area Board meeting on Tuesday (July 17) that no members of the area’s Neighbourhood Police Team were being seconded for Olympic security duties. One officer from a nearby Neighbourhood Police Team is being sent to London on Olympic duties.
But it is acknowledged that the situation is fluid. It is learnt today (July 18) that Whitehall has a contingency plan to send further security staff to Olympic venues if it becomes necessary. This may include between 500 and 2,000 more troops.
