Another invitation to local residents to play a role in clearing up Marlborough’s Old Cemetery, on the Common, has been issued by the Town Council, which initiated the project in April.
The second clear-up day is being held on June 15, starting at 10am, when a combination of enthusiasm and stout boots are being called for.
Depending on the weather, volunteers might need warm clothing or T-shirts but, certainly gloves and stout shoes or boots. Some tools will be provided but extra rakes, shears, loppers or secateurs will be welcome.
Most importantly, sunshine or showers, a flask of something hot — or cold — to drink.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Margaret Rose, who is driving the project, told Marlborough News Online: “It’s so important to keep this important part of our heritage special, to protect and look after this beautiful space for years to come. We look forward to the community coming along to help out.”
Marlborough in Bloom is hoping too to show the town’s cemeteries to the Royal Horticultural Society judges when they visit the town on July 8, as part of the South West in Bloom regional competition.
