I fully support the letters recently published Peter Morgan and David Chandler with regards the one-way proposal for the Parade.
Whilst Ian Mellor’s letter makes some good points re, pedestrian safety the Parade provides two adequate footpaths, one either side of the road. Shops such as Rainbows rely on people parking quickly and using their services.
I use the Parade most days as a motorist and as a pedestrian and on occasions have to wait to move up or down the Parade but generally motorists are respectful of each other. The rare commodity of free parking spaces for two hours in the Parade, Marlborough needs protecting at all costs. Making the Parade one-way is just an utter waste of tax payers money.
With no by-pass we just have to accept that traffic flows through Marlborough, north/south and east/west will continue to be heavy at certain times of the day. What creates most of the traffic jams are roadworks, both active and inactive and there is nothing we can do to change that.
What is needed if we wish to keep Marlborough as a visitor destination is more parking, maybe Frees Avenue as I have suggested before?
Yours,
