‘Battle of Marlborough’ re-enactment – letter from Michael Cope

Sirs,

I wish to support Anthony Smith’s letter of 7th November, concerning the Town Council’s decision regarding the Battle of Marlborough re-enactment.

In normal circumstances, a historical re-enactment would be an informative and popular way of promoting understanding of the past.

However, given the current horrendous conflict and suffering in Gaza/Israel and in Ukraine, such an event seems inappropriate and insensitive, particularly considering there are people living in our community who are personally affected by these conflicts.

I urge the Council to re-consider its decision.
