Sirs,
You report that the Town Council has “approved in principle to look to welcome” re-enactment of the Battle of Marlborough. You also report that at the 2019 re-enactment “a good fun atmosphere” was enjoyed. You illustrate your article with a photograph of a cannon firing and flames and smoke.
I wonder if any of your readers find the decision of the Town Council to be, at the least, inappropriate and insensitive in the light of what is happening in Gaza/Israel and in Ukraine. In these times of appalling suffering can any battle re-enactment be “good fun”? Personally, I find the Town Council’s decision to be shameful and disgraceful.
Would any of your readers join me in hoping that the Town Council will re-consider?
Yours,
Anthony Smith
