This year’s Starlight Walk, the biggest event in Prospect Hospice’s calendar of events, has already attracted more than 250 women entrants. They have signed up for the sponsored night-time walk on June 22.
The Wroughton-based charity have given the event a Latin flavour turning it into the ‘Samba Starlight’. Participants are being encouraged to dress up Mardi-Gras style to bring a splash of colour to a summer night.
Prospect Hospice which is only part funded by the NHS, cares for many patients and their families from the Marlborough area.
The Walk – now in its sixth year – is again being sponsored the Nationwide Building Society, which has its head office in Swindon.
And there’s a T-shirt that can be worn on the walk with its specially designed motif.
Prospect Hospice’s head of fundraising Sheryl Crouch was delighted that Nationwide has agreed to continue its sponsorship of the Starlight Walk: “We are hugely grateful to Nationwide for its on-going support of our biggest fundraising event.”
“Its sponsorship covers the majority of the cost of putting on the event, which means the overwhelming share of the money raised through walkers’ sponsorship goes directly towards the care Prospect Hospice gives freely to patients and their families.”
Chad Rogerson, Senior Citizenship Manager at Nationwide, said: “The Starlight Walk is a fantastic event which helps to raise vital funds for Prospect Hospice, and we are delighted to support it for a sixth year.”
“Prospect Hospice is close to the hearts of many of our employees in Swindon and, as our staff nominated charity of the year, we have pledged £70,000 to the charity through a variety of activities including the sponsorship of major events like this one and employee fundraising.”
