
Sunday 23 June is Open Garden day in Marlborough, organised by The Merchant’s House. It will be the nineteenth anniversary of this annual event with all profits dedicated to the Merchants House Trust Appeal. It helps raise much needed funds to look after this wonderful historic house in the heart of the town.
Marlborough’s Open Gardens allows visitors the opportunity to visit stunning private gardens, in quiet spots across the town, often with unique and interesting outlooks, views and features. There will be at least twelve gardens on show and these will include formal gardens, traditional courtyards, peaceful wild spaces and vibrant community gardens. The starting point on the day will the 17th century formal and kitchen garden at The Merchant’s House.
From The Merchant’s House all gardens are all within easy walking distance, and this year will number at least twelve, one of which will be The Merchant’s House garden itself. A 17th century-style garden, designed by Jeffrey Galvin-Wright, with everything from hard to soft landscaping being authentic to the period and so in keeping with the rest of the house.
