Colin Gratton, Chairman of Pewsey Tennis Club, and Lewis Fletcher from Ramsbury Tennis Club, both received awards in the Wiltshire Lawn Tennis Association Annual Awards Ceremony held at Marlborough Golf Club earlier this month.
Colin Gratton, who lives in Manton, won the Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been a volunteer and member of Pewsey Tennis Club for twenty years and a committee member since 2003. For ten years he has also held the position of Club representative on the County Management committee.
In the nomination for the award he is described as “an enthusiastic leader who has overseen the introduction of many new club programmes and is champion of club safeguarding.”
He has helped to transform the Club – ensuring new floodlights were installed on all courts, improving the surface quality of the courts and maintaining the clubhouse to a high standard.
He has also been responsible for raising over £1,500 for local Wiltshire charities through Club tournaments and social events.
Lewis Fletcher from Ramsbury Tennis Club won the Coach of the Year. He has developed a varied coaching programme for all ages and abilities.
He is the County Coach Captain of the 18U, 14U, 12U, and 8U age groups.
He coaches at National Level and is part of the British Deaf Tennis Development and Futures Programme.
He won two silver medals at the 2019 World Deaf Team Cup and is a National Champion at Singles and Doubles.
His nomination described him as being “one of the most committed and respected coaches in the county with tremendous coaching skills. He gets the absolute maximum out of his players and is a great asset to the Club, County and National Organisation.”
Sir Geoffrey Owen, President of the Wiltshire LTA, presented the awards – which he said were “richly deserved.”
