It’s progressing as we’d expected and hoped’ said Oscar Barnett, the young local entrepreneur who has created and recently launched ‘WRK4U‘, the innovative site that matches and links those who need jobs done with those who could do those jobs but are young, probably still in school, but are looking for – and happy to do some work in return for money. What jobs? Lawn and hedge trimming, window cleaning. log stacking, shelves in shops sorting or even washing up in cafes and many more. Experience of work when still at school.
It’s what many of the older population used to do when young, but for many reasons has disappeared.
Nowadays there is the ‘NEET’ crisis – those Not in Employment, Education or Training. The recent ‘Milburn Report’ scared many and bought home to us all a problem that is there but not talked about.
How do young people get used to working, to earn money? What was once called ‘pocket money’? Oscar’s project ‘WRK4U’ gives the young the chance to experience work, paid work, and it is a way of bridging the gap between school, education and work. At present, and the Government is well aware of this and see it as priority to fix, this ‘gap’ is too great. ‘WRK4U’ is but one way to bridge that gap. Give the young a taste of experiencing what paid work is like, and give many of us the chance for someone to come and do those jobs that we can’t or are unable to or don’t have time to do. Once that was easy, but it can become easy again, thanks to ‘WRK4U’.
Early days, so far, but it’s working. Oscar will be gradually developing and evolving the site and the offer. It’s a new concept, not copying anything but filling a need. And tweaks will be made following feedback from both the young workers and those who need work done. With the aim of creating an ever more effective and useful service, to all.
‘Thanks to those who have got in touch so far’ said Oscar, ‘And that means those who want jobs, and those who need work to be done’.
