The Scout Hut, the home of the 2nd Marlborough Scout Group has managed to secure grant funding from Biffa Award to take the refurbishment project of this important Community Facility for Marlborough to a near final stage. The Scout Hut isn’t used just by 2nd Marlborough Scout Group, but also by many of Marlborough’s Community groups as well so this is not just for the Scouts, it’s for Marlborough.
The project will see a significant renovation of the internal aspects of the Scout Hut. Over the past couple of years much has been done. The roof, the exterior, so it’s all become watertight and now this grant will bring the interior up to the standard required.
Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to communities and environmental projects across England and Northern Ireland as part of the Government’s Landfill Communities Fund.
The project will start in July and will involve local craftsmen and businesses. Nigel Hilliar – Painter and Decorator, John Giles of Elysium Woodworking Ltd and Tom Barnes of Vastern Timbers are the chosen contractors and suppliers who will be supporting the project. The restoration will include replacement of the floorboards in the main hall and the entrance hall, alongside a complete internal redecoration. Currently the flooring and interior decor of the Scout Hut are in real need of renovation, and the project will ensure that the building can continue to serve the local community.
Donna Kirby, Chair of Trustees of 2nd Marlborough Scout Group, told Marlborough.news: “This grant will enable us to breathe a new lease of life into the scout hut, ensuring it remains a safe and inviting community hub, for use not only by 2nd Marlborough Scouts, but groups and individuals in the wider community. We are excited for the project to begin and to share the progress.”
The Scout Hut is very much part of the community and to recognise this 2nd Marlborough Scouts will be having a ‘works party’ day, a day prior to the project starting where the community will be invited to help, to do preparations for the works that will take place in the Scout Hut soon after. If you feel that you could lend a hand, or utilise a volunteering allowance through your workplace, please do get in touch as they would love to welcome you to help prepare for the renovations, thus ensuring the project starts on time. But there is more…… Alongside the building works, the trustees are inviting the wider community to take part in an exciting time capsule project. A capsule containing letters, photos, leaflets and other small mementos will be placed beneath the new floorboards before they are laid, to be discovered by future generations. Community groups and individuals who wish to contribute are encouraged to get in touch.
