Children at Ramsbury Primary School have raised over £1,100 for the charity ARK, (Action for the River Kennet). Over 60 Ramsbury School children took part in this year’s Schools Triathlon, raising an incredible £3,495 for the event’s charity Restless Development. From this fundraising, the school received a proportion of the money raised to donate to a chosen school charity. The school chose Action for the River Kennet because of their continued hard work to protect the local environment whilst providing many educational opportunities for local schools.
Ramsbury School have worked with ARK for many years and are grateful for the educational visits that continue to take place. This year, Class 3 children were involved in a River School project which was a huge success. Here are some comments from Class 3 pupils:
“I think it’s very good that we raised money for ARK because they save lots of wildlife and animals. I think it’s important for the environment to be saved. In Class 3 we went to the river to look at some animals. We found a tiny crayfish lurking in the weeds.” – Henry
“I feel brilliant about raising money for ARK because ARK helps sort out pollution and helps animals thrive in our river. I think it is important because these animals help the river to stay healthy. Rivers bring life to the world! Anna told us about creatures that we had never ever heard of before. We even found crayfish and water insects. We actually went in the river and saw lots of fascinating things!” – Sophia
Anna Forbes, ARK Senior Project Officer & Volunteer Coordinator, said, “We are thrilled Ramsbury Primary chose to support ARK and specifically our River School project. It is donations like these that enable us to run River School, which each year gets more popular with us providing our expert led educational and hands on river experiences for many local schools, including Ramsbury.”
