Finally, after weeks of deprivation Marlborough’s coffee aficionados can again savour the delights (and aroma!) of a decent latte, double espresso or just a flat white from The Food Gallery, which is now accepting phone (and text) instructions for take-aways.
The doors will remain shut but quickly open again to pass out the pre-instructed orders at the agreed time.
Bob Holman, who runs The Food Gallery with Rich, Kat and Nikki told marlborough.news how it’s going to work. To make an order:
- to call us on the shop number (01672-514069),
- order your items,
- tell us when you’ll collect your order,
- pre-pay,
- come down and collect your order – outside the shop!
Simple….
Bob added: “If the shop number is busy, you could text us (text messages only please, no voice calls taken) on our dedicated ‘text ordering line’ 07584-567166 and give us your order. We will call you back to take payment.
You can still drop by unannounced, but I’m afraid we can’t allow you into the shop. We can still take your order though and your (contactless only) payment.”
This take-away opening is initially on a trial basis for a few weeks ‘to see how successful it is’ (said Bob), but it’s only started because of the number of regular customers begging the team for a regular fix. “We’ve had so many requests to open for a decent coffee and a chocolate brownie, that we thought we’d better had!” he explained.
Bob also added that they would deliver free to those living in the town deemed ‘vulnerable’ and hence in isolation.
Is this the first sign of Marlborough’s ‘new normal’? Maybe, but a welcome return to something just a bit familiar.
