Sirs,
Following the letter from David Chandler expressing concern over the possible loss of important historical features on the present building, I thought that readers would be interested to know that back in October when I became aware that the Police were thinking of selling the Police Station I wrote to Kim Glenister who was Head of Facilities and Estate Facilities at Police Headquarters pointing out that it was extremely important that if sold protection should be given to the Victorian Stone Badge and Script set into the front boundary wall.
I and many local people felt that this stonework was an important part of our town’s heritage.
Kim Glenister replied to my email and assured me that the PCC would make provision for the preservation of this stonework as part of the site disposal and that the PCC’s Solicitor would incorporate this provision in any future contract of sale.
I would add that as a member of the Eastern Planning Committee I will make the protection of this stonework an important part of any planning discussion when a planning application is considered, along with the stone pillars, blue arch and lamp to which David Chandler also refers.
Yours,
Stewart Dobson,
Wiltshire Councillor, Marlborough East
