Marlborough Tennis Club have submitted a Planning Application to build a new Clubhouse/Pavilion at their Port Hill site.
The new structure will replace the existing modified ‘portacabin’ that has served the club as a pavilion since the Port Hill site was opened several years ago. The success and growth of the club since has made the need for such a new clubhouse ever more apparent and necessary.
This proposed two storey contemporary design clubhouse, with an external viewing gallery affording panoramic views, will be a much needed replacement for the temporary structure the club has been using to date.
As well as creating an attractive addition to the landscape it will provide changing facilities, a meeting place for players and their families and an external viewing gallery across all six courts.
The contemporary style of the proposed clubhouse utilises the existing gradients and retaining walls to deliver a compact building which will enhance the appearance of the tennis club.
The nature of this area will mean that the clubhouse won’t be visible for all to see. It will be hidden behind the mature trees alongside the A346 and will only be visible to golfers walking up the ninth fairway
The Clubs Chairman, Andrew Payne, said “this is an exciting next step for our club and we hope to raise the necessary funds to start constructing this new club house later next year. With an expanding membership now at over 400 members, we need to look to the future and with this project, complete the overall initial project development”.
