The window of the former ‘Rowlands’ shop was, for a while, a shop window for Poppy Art rather than clothing (see ‘Marlborough in Bloom competition produces windows full of pupils’ poppy art’).
The ‘Poppy Art’ competition was organised by Beckie Ambrosini, Lead Art Teacher at St Peter’s, and it was conceived to celebrate the Marlborough in Bloom entry for the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition, whilst chiming with the commemoration of the centenary of the start of WWI, the Great War.
Headteacher Caroline Spindlow presided over the awards ceremony, and the Mayor presented certificates to the winning pupils – Samuel Joseph, Charlie Melbourne, Noah Piercy, Jessica Light, Jenna McKay, Honey McNamara, Callum Quinn and Lily Perdue.
Also receiving a certificate was the overall winner of the 7-11 age group, Arwen Crook, whose entry will be going through to the finals of the South West in Bloom Children’s Painting Competition 2014.
