Hilda Moore received the unparalleled accolade of a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the recent Lawn Tennis Association Awards ceremony at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. Last Friday (16 May) the BBC sent their ‘Points West’ team to the Port Hill centre of Marlborough Tennis to find out how and why – and to share her journey with potentially everyone in the South West area.
The BBC were keen to learn what Marlborough Tennis are doing so right (the club were named ‘Club of the Year’ at the same awards ceremony) and particularly about Hilda, her ethos of participation across all ages and what she does that sets her apart.

BBC reporter Kelly Morgan interviewed Hilda and Chair Andrew Payne, as well as putting Hilda through her paces on court! Hilda commented that she has never known so much pressure just to get the ball over the net!
On the Friday afternoon, the six courts were overflowing with members, all keen to show how active the UK’s ‘Club of the Year’ is, and no doubt equally keen to see themselves on TV.
Interested in finding out more? Or the lure of the green courts is too strong to avoid? Marlborough Tennis will be holding an Open Evening on this Friday – 23rd May at 6pm – when guests will be invited to play some tennis for an hour, followed by drinks and chat in the clubhouse. Contact Marlborough Tennis at newmembers@marlboroughtennis.co.uk with the names of anyone attending so that you will be expected. And also as indication of tennis ability would be helpful in pairing players together. Hilda’s ethos of participation across all ages is one of the reasons behind her excellent award, tennis is open to all.
