A very big night for Marlborough Tennis. Not just picking up the ‘Club of the Year’ award, but Hilda Moore gained National recognition for all that she has done and achieved for tennis in Marlborough – and before, and received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) awards ceremonyt at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.
It would be no exaggeration to say that tennis in Marlborough and Hilda Moore are synonymous. Hilda has made a strong contribution to tennis both in Scotland and here in Wiltshire. She played tennis from age 10, joining the Titlow Tennis Clubs committee in Glasgow at just 19. She qualified as a coach at Marlborough in 2004, was appointed chair in 2002 until 2018.
Hilda currently co-leads as a Trustee on coaching. This year she joins Wiltshire Tennis, helping to manage tennis across the county. In presenting her award, Sir Trevor McDonald whose distinguished career in television news including ITN’s News at Ten, said “Her ethos is participation. Her enthusiasm and personality has been an inspiration – she is a star performer!” Hilda Moore said she was “absolutely delighted and is grateful for the support over so many years”.
And here, in Marlborough, whether we play tennis or not we can all say – “Congratulations, well done Hilda, a fantastic and very well deserved achievement”.
