Quite few years ago floodlights were put up around the green at Marlborough Bowls Club enabling members to play beyond the hours of bright daylight. But last week the club challenged players from other local clubs, including Calne, Pewsey and Ramsbury to compete in an annual end of season Floodlit Tournament to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The tournament raised £1,000 for the hospital.
Despite the chilly wet weather the Floodlit Tournament went ahead. As the sun went down and the floodlights came on, game play became a real challenge but as is typical of bowls players, spirits remained high with team Pewsey Pirates as overall winners.
As is the custom Marlborough the lights go off at 9:30 and the club gives a warm welcome to all those who took part by providing a hot supper at the end of each evening.
On Sunday 21 September something just a bit different. Marlborough Bowls Club will be holding an open day for their sponsors, where sponsors are invited to have a go on the green. And then all finished off with an afternoon tea…
