Marlborough College, which bucked the national trend with it’s admirable A level results, did even better at GCSE – its results being the best ever in terms of achievement at every level.
The College website reports: “Over 49 per cent of grades awarded were A* and over 79 per cent were graded either A* or A.
“These excellent grades have been achieved across the full range of 26 subjects with results in the core of English, Maths, Science and Languages being particularly impressive. For the second year running the majority of subjects have been examined at IGCSE, which is widely considered more academically rigorous than GCSE so pupils and staff are not just rising to the increased challenge but thriving on it.
“Whilst noises continue to be made about a national agenda of grade deflation the pupils’ achievements are deeply impressive.”
Offering congratulations to teaching staff and students, Jonathan Leigh, the College Master, declares: “It is excellent to see pupils produce what is clearly Marlborough’s best ever year of GCSE results.
“The commendable rise in A*/A speaks volumes for the diligence of the girls and boys in this year group having shown perseverance in seeing their exams through to great effect – well done them.”
