Starting next week – on Tuesday 11 June – Herd Street will be closed overnight, between 7pm and midnight each day. The work is scheduled to end on 29 June. we understand that this will cover the entire length of herd St and Barn St, from The Common right down to the Wye House roundabout, which will also be included (at some point) as it is real need of resurfacing. The closures are in the evening rather than after midnight so that residents can get some peace during the nights.

The diversionary route is via Beckhampton, so west from Marlborough along the A4, right on to the A361 towards Swindon and then back to the northern part of Marlborough along the A46. In practice that will be for HGVs as most (all?) other vehicles will likely use Kingsbury St. But there will likely be congestion as many HGV drivers won’t have planned their route based on this information.
Diversions will be signed, Police and HGV operating companies have been informed but inevitably some drivers won’t have picked this up. Kingsbury St is a definite ‘No’ for HGVs but likely some will try.
What is to be done? On the ‘one.network website (see right) the details of the work is: ‘Carriageway resurfacing, replacement of road markings, adjustment of ironwork and associated works’. So Herd St will be devoid of potholes – for a while. The Utility Companies have been informed as this is an opportunity for them to carry out any works but we don’t know of anything that wil be done.
