The Kennet and Avon Medical Partnership has told Marlborough.news that they apologised to patients this week about the shortage of GP appointments available at the practice. A reduction in the number of fully qualified GPs across the country has made it difficult to replace those retiring GPs.
The Practice posted the following statement : “We are very sorry that KAMP are short of GP appointments at present. Please bear with us as we are doing everything we can to find new GPs for KAMP.”
GP Partner, Dr Richard Hook explained: “Recruitment isn’t easy as there are fewer qualified GPs than five years ago. Practices with increasing numbers of patients are fighting over a smaller number of GPs looking for jobs. KAMP are desperately seeking new GPs and we hope to make announcements soon. We believe this is only a short term issue and we thank our patients for their understanding.”
The NHS advice to ease the pressure on GPs is to ask your pharmacist for advice and treatment, they can prescribe medications for various ailments including ear infections, shingles and urinary infections in women.
“New appointments are being released all the time”, said Suzy Deering from Patient Services at KAMP “you can book appointments as they become available on the NHS App or by ringing the practice. We have staff on standby who will be happy to help people to download and use the NHS App”.
