Marlborough Youth Football Club’s U12s received an Easter Egg surprise at their training session last Tuesday. The team’s sponsor, Merlin Court Care Home, distributed Easter Eggs to all the players. Despite the blustery cold evening on Marlborough Common spirits were high and improved further by the Easter Eggs! After weeks of missing football during lockdown, the boys and girls were excited to be back playing again, and were delighted to be finding their fitness again ahead of their first league match in the North Wiltshire Youth Football League at the weekend.
Sarah Knight, mother of one of the players, said, “It was such a nice gesture of the care home to pass on chocolate eggs to ‘their’ football team. Whilst not the most healthy choice for aspiring sportsmen and women, they were inevitably very well received!”
Noah Konynenburg, an enthusiastic U12s player, commented, “I am so pleased to be back at football and represent Marlborough as part of a team with all my friends. The Easter eggs were a really kind gesture.”
Rhia Murgatroyd-Elliott, Well-being and Activity Co-ordinator at Merlin Court Care Home, said, “To celebrate spring, Merlin Court and Avery Healthcare asked for help in making a mile-long Easter egg trail. The team, residents, families and friends of Merlin Court and local businesses donated eggs to then give to our local community.
Prior to the pandemic, our residents have enjoyed watching and supporting MYFC, so they wanted to donate some of the eggs to the team and wish them luck with their training beginning again. Our residents look forward to a time we can come to watch matches and cheer from the side-lines once more!”
With Easter fun over, the team are now focusing on the remaining fixtures of the league which runs until the end of May. Here’s hoping for favourable weather conditions and results for the U12s.
