Fire & Rescue services and the Police were called this morning to an ‘incident’ at or adjacent to the College Boarding House on the south side of the High Street, the premises that was formerly the Ivy House hotel.
Initially there was a report of a fire which, when checked out proved to be an electrical fault, with some fire/electrical problem underneath the pavement outside the House. There was initially a concern that there might have been a gas leak and thankfully on checking this was and found not to be the case.
This area, the stretch of the High Street was then closed so that the emergency services could deal with the incident.
Premises adjacent to the College Boarding House are also without power until the issue has been resolved.
It is anticipated that the area will remain closed off – and the section of the High Street closed until early afternoon. At about 10:30 the estimate was for a closure (of about three hours).
