‘A Fiver pays for a meal’. Buy a copy of the White Horse Bookshop ‘Plätzen, Pineapple and Peas‘ for £5 and you’ve just covered the cost of a three course meal for one of Marlborough’s elderly in the Town Hall on Christmas Day at the annual Christmas Lunch.
Marlborough’s Christmas Day Lunch at the Town Hall is a tradition going back many years. Publication of this booklet is a new and innovative way of raising money for the Lunch. It contains plenty of ideas from White Horse staff: ‘Peas a la Francaise’ from Angus, ‘Frohe Weihnachten’ from Lily, as well as lots more from many other contributors.
Imogen has even included a vegetarian option – ‘The Nut Loaf’.
But it’s also memories as well as recipes. A simply but beautifully created and prepared booklet for Christmas, published by The White Horse Bookshop and well worth the £5 on it’s own.
Lots of different ideas from not just White Horse staff, Sir Simon Russell Beale has penned the introduction and Kay, from Marlborough’s LitFest has written of her memorable memories of Christmas meals past. And many more fascinating and interesting contributions.
So, for £5 – whilst supporting one of Marlborough’s great annual and traditional events and covering the cost of one place and meal for one of the older members of the community the booklet has a lot to offer as well.
Christmas Lunch organiser Vicky Ellis describes what the Christmas Lunch means to members of the community on the back cover (above). “It’s not means tested” she makes clear. “it’s not about being rich or poor” she adds. “It is coming together as a community to enjoy each other’s company, as well as plenty of food and drink”.
So pop in to The White Horse Bookshop (if any excuse were needed) on the upper (North) side of the High Street, at no. 136 near to the Town Hall and pick up a copy, or call them on 01672 512071 or e-mail info@whitehorsebooks.co.uk to reserve one. Make Christmas Day something even more special for the one of the older members of our community.
