Marlborough College students sweepstake win on the Euros became a donation to MYFC
During England’s fantastic run to the Euro football finals in the summer, pupils across three year groups at Marlborough College became involved in a sweepstake.
This culminated in a generous decision by the boys to make a contribution of £300 to Marlborough Youth FC, representative of grass roots football for the younger players in the Marlborough and surrounding area.
In the words of Atty Adams, Marlborough College Head Boy and Captain of the College’s first football team: “during the European Championships it was clear that the country had something to look forward to with the simple game of football. With the money involved in today’s game it’s important we remember our own youth development and give everyone from all walks of life the opportunity to play this incredible sport”.
The reaction of Marlborough Youth Football club was, to say the least very surprised and thankful to the College students who made this decision to donate. Club Chairman Stu Slater told marlborough.news: “We are a self-financing organisation, underwritten solely by the annual subscriptions of our players; therefore, donations and assistance from our sponsors and local associations are always so very gratefully received.
“It goes without saying such gestures help us enormously and it’s worth reinforcing the challenge we face each year in providing football to c.450 youngsters. It also goes without saying we are proud in our association and friendship with Marlborough College and grateful to both this generosity and their numerous avenues of ongoing support. On behalf of the club, many thanks to Atty, Outreach Lead Will Finlay, and all pupils concerned”.
