Police are continuing to search a pond area in Ramsbury following the discovery of the boots believed to belong to Sian O’Callaghan, the 22-year-old woman from Swindon who was abducted and brutally murdered three years ago.
They have also found a mobile phone and other personal items belonging to Sian, as well as a single barrelled shotgun.
The extensive searches by the Major Crime Investigation Team are being carried out in the Hill Drop Lane area — a specialist dive team from Avon and Somerset has also been called in – which has been closed off and diversions put in place.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean Memory, who is leading the investigation, said: “These are an important find and we are continuing to conduct thorough and detailed searches of the area.
“We will be keeping Sian’s family updated on our progress and will be working closely with them to ensure anything recovered is returned to them as soon as possible.”
The specialist dive team from Avon and Somerset will continue their efforts at the scene tomorrow (Wednesday) when they will drain the pond and conduct further searches.
Police officers and cadaver dogs are also continuing in their efforts to trace any further items of identity.
