Pewsey has been named one of the 30 Best Places to Live in the Countryside by The Times.
The village was ranked number six in the list, and the authors write: “”Think thatched-roof cottages and farm shops selling local ales. The Vale of Pewsey is at the foot of the Marlborough Downs, with open landscapes, and Pewsey village was once renowned by the Saxon King Alfred.”
However, in what does sound like a back-handed complement, the article adds: “Salisbury and its cathedral are near by, and there is good shopping in Marlborough.”
Topping the list was Maldon in Essex, a town on the banks of the River Blackwater.
