As the result of a two-week, unannounced inspection in July, Ofsted has rated Wiltshire’s arrangements for the protection of children as ‘adequate’. This follows Ofsted’s critical report last year which found safeguarding arrangements to be ‘inadequate’.
The report published on Friday (August 16) found Wiltshire Council’s service for children is adequate in each of the four areas inspected – including effectiveness of help and protection provided for children.
Ofsted praised the Council’s ‘swift and effective’ response to its critical report in 2012 .
But the new report outlined measures the council and its partners should take to improve its quality of help and protection for children.
Four action points are to be achieved within three months and three more within six months. But the Council has to take immediate action to strengthen planning arrangements for children assessed by social workers as being in need.
