Potions, Purges and Tonics with Nichola Abraham – part of ‘History Live’ at the Merchant’s House

20 April @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

How did people in the 17th century keep healthy? Who could they turn to if they became unwell? Join Nichola Abraham as she discusses how women played an active role in early modern medicine. Take the opportunity to look closely at items in The Merchant’s House’s collection and discover how they fitted into this complex area of early modern life.
Nicola has a Master’s in early modern history with The Open University and has worked and volunteered at The Merchant’s House for several years.
The Merchant’s House is thrilled to present History Live, a week-long festival celebrating history in all its forms. This inaugural event promises something for everyone: from engaging lectures and a walking tour of Marlborough to visits to Wilton Windmill and Shaw House.
History Live invites visitors to step back in time, explore local heritage, and experience history in a dynamic, interactive way. Organisers hope this marks the start of a landmark annual event for Marlborough.
