At a meeting held last night (25 May) at Ogbourne St George Village Hall, Conservative Party members resident in the West Selkley division elected Jane Davies by secret ballot to be their candidate for the 2017 Wiltshire County Council election.
Jane, from Lockeridge, was standing against Brigadier Peter Sharpe from Pewsey, both of whom had been selected from a list of potential candidates at a previous meeting. They each addressed the twenty or so members present and took questions from the floor.
If elected next May Jane will take over from Jemima Milton the current long serving Councillor for West Selkley. Jane has long-standing experience in community matters having been a Parish Councillor, Chair of School Governors and a successful fund raiser and traffic calming activist. At the last election in 2013 Jemima was elected with a share of 77.3% of all votes cast, the higest share of votes achieved that year by any Conservative councillor in Wiltshire.
Note: West Selkley is a large geographical area completely encircling Marlborough incorporating Avebury, Berwick Bassett, The Winterbournes, Broad Hinton, East Kennett, Beckhampton, West Overton, Fyfield, Lockeridge, Presute, Savernake, The Ogbournes and Mildenhall.
